The Amelia County Department of Social Services is a public agency serving the citizens of Amelia County. Our mission is to help our eligible customers meet basic needs through financial assistance, promote self-sufficiency in our customers through employment-related services, and help protect children and vulnerable adults through services designed to reduce the risk of abuse and neglect.
Reporting Child Abuse / Neglect
Trained staff are on call 24 hours a day for emergency response to child abuse/neglect. For after hours reporting of child abuse/neglect, call 800-552-7096.
Services
The Amelia County Department of Social Services provides various services and financial assistance to the citizens of Amelia County. These include but are not limited to:
- Adoption
- Adult and child protection services
- Child day care
- Child support services
- Foster care
- Medicaid
- Seasonal assistance for heating and cooling
- Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) formerly known as food stamps
- Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (families with dependent children)
