John R. Pollock Jr.

began his career with Amelia County Sheriff’s Office in 2007 as a patrol deputy.  Through diligence, dedication and hard work, he attained the rank of Patrol Sergeant in 2013, and completed First Line Level Supervisory I & II.  His daily duties are to supervise the patrol deputies under his guidance. He has specialized training in Active Shooter and First Responder Operations in Rural Terrain as well as served as an Instructor and Field Training Officer.  He is certified in Intox EC/IR Breath Alcohol Operation and has training in Terrorist Bombings, Prevention/Response to Suicide Bombings, and Analyzing Gang/Suspicious Activity. 

Gary A. Pugh, Jr.

began his career as a law enforcement officer in Colonial Heights in 1995 where he was a patrol officer and then promoted to detective.  He began serving Amelia County in 1999 as a patrol deputy and was promoted to investigations in 2010.   Sergeant Pugh has specialized training in Motor Carrier, Active Shooter, First Responder Operations in Rural Terrain and Criminal Investigations.  He is a member of the Southern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, Virginia State Police/Amelia Sheriff’s Office/Powhatan Sheriff’s Office Drug and Gang Task Force and FBI Child Exploitation Task Force.  Currently serves as Sergeant in Investigations and  in Court Security and Civil Process where he supervises court deputies as well as provides security for the judge, court personnel and all citizens. 

Johnnie O. Tanner, Jr.

began his career as a law enforcement officer in Greensville Co, VA in 1988 where he was a patrol officer.  In 2016, he was hired by Amelia Sheriff’s Office as a patrol deputy and was promoted to Sergeant in 2017.  He has worked at several agencies in Virginia and held multiple positions to include:  SRO, K-9 Handler, Accident Reconstruction, Investigations and TACT Team Member.  Sgt. Tanner is a member of the Virginia Army National Guard with over 16 years of service as a Military Policeman, as well as Virginia Gang Investigator’s Association and serves on the Clover Volunteer Fire Department.
