County Textile Recycling Program on Hold

November 18, 2016

Amelia County Department of Environmental Management

For the past several years, Amelia County has operated a textile recycling program using large white metal recycling bins located at each convenience center labeled “CLOTHES & SHOES”. This has been a wonderful recycling program but the vendor who serviced the bins has gone out of business. We are searching for another vendor to collect the clothes but in the meantime we are asking citizens to please refrain from using these textile recycling bins. Most of them are full anyway and we ask that you please not put clothes on the ground at the bins as this causes a nuisance and the clothes just get thrown away. While we are working through this transition, we request that you donate your clothes and shoes to a charity such as the Amelia Thrift Store on Maplewood Road in Jetersville (10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Wednesday – Saturday), The Clothes Cottage located on Washington Street in the Village (Saturdays, 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM), The Salvation Army, Goodwill, etc. We anticipate resuming this recycling program in early 2017. We appreciate your past support of this program and your patience while we work through this transition. If you have any questions, please call Patty Averett at 561-3004 or Ray York at 561-3039.
