Amelia County Department of Environmental Management
April 30, 2018
Ms. Rebecca Easter’s kindergarten class at Amelia County Elementary School took first place in the 2018 Amelia County Spring Green/Clean “Helping Our Environment Begins with You” environmental door decoration contest held recently. The students decorated a door with the message “Tweet, Tweet, make a peep. RECYCLE More!” and featured birds made from plastic forks, bird nests made from recycled paper plates and a tree made from recycled toilet tissue rolls. Second place went to Ms. Cheryl Clay & Ms. Rebecca Sones’ multi-age class with their “No Litterbugs allowed in this place. Please Love Amelia County’s Environment” door decoration with bugs made from a variety of recycled products including egg cartons, bottles, popsicle sticks and plastic cups. Ms. Ashley Harris’s kindergarten class won third place with a creative door decorated with recycled newspaper and handprints of the students. Their message was “I can take care of the world with my own hands! Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.” Each winning class member received a progrm t-shirt and a McDonald’s Happy Meal coupon. The Amelia County Department of Environmental Management and the Amelia County 4-H would like to thank all of the classes that participated as the judges had fun as well as a hard time choosing from the creative entries. We would also like to thank our corporate sponsors Waste Management of Virginia and McDonald’s of Amelia for providing the prizes for the winning classrooms. 2018 marks the 11th anniversary of the Spring Green/Clean program, an annual community-wide spring clean-up, beautification and environmental educational effort designed to improve and show pride in Amelia County.
